The name of Coquimbo comes from a native word which means “Place of still waters”, it reflects wholy the quietness in the bay.

The strategic location of Coquimbo Portrian Enterprise(COPE), allows to be open 365 days a year, because of the penninsule of Coquimbo is protected in open sea.,avoiding to close the port for bad weather conditions.

Coquimbo Port Enterprise (COPE)inscribed in the Register of Superintendency of Values and Insurances under the number 711 from the 08 of november 2000, it was constituted an autonomous enterprise the 01 October 1998.

Through Ordinance Nº 239 published in 24 september of 1998, the Minister of Transports and in the article Nº3 Transitoy to such law.

Theirs goals as an enterprise are expressed such as in the Master Plan , as well as in the Referential Calendary of Inverstments , both instruments, that make real the mandatory contained in the Law Nº 19542 about “Modernize the State Portrian Area” which stablish the creation of portrian autonomous enterprises sent in 29 december of 1997.
